A Summer Invitation to Explore Narratives
This summer, Ogden Museum extends a warm invitation to all New Orleans residents and literary enthusiasts to be part of a unique book club experience. Teaming up with One Book One New Orleans (OBONO), the museum presents a chance to read Daughters of the New Year by E.M. Tran, a captivating tale that intertwines the lives of a Vietnamese American family across generations in our beloved Crescent City. This initiative not only ignites a love for reading but also serves as a bridge connecting the community through shared literary exploration.
A Curated Conversation
To further enrich this reading experience, be sure to attend the upcoming Curated Conversation set for July 26. This special event features OBONO’s executive director Dr. Megan Holt, who will dive deep into the complex personal narratives of the Vietnamese Diaspora with co-curator Uyên Đinh and author E.M. Tran. As they explore themes resonant within both Tran’s novel and the accompanying exhibition Hoa Tay (Flower Hands), participants will have an opportunity to engage in meaningful discussions around cultural identity and storytelling.
Connecting Through Literature and Culture
The Ogden Museum stands as an important cultural hub in New Orleans, blending art and literature. Participating in events like this book club highlights the role of storytelling in understanding diverse perspectives. The experience of reading Daughters of the New Year not only invites readers to lose themselves in a story but also encourages an appreciation for the threads of cultural history that are woven into the fabric of New Orleans.
Engaging the Community
Community engagement through literature has numerous benefits. It fosters connections, encourages dialogue, and creates spaces for individuals from different backgrounds to come together. As summer unfolds, this book club represents a perfect blend of relaxation and intellectual exploration, encouraging participants to gather around a common interest—understanding the nuances of cultural identities through literature.
