On June 18, the New Orleans Redevelopment Authority (NORA) and community planning firm &Access launched an ambitious plan to rejuvenate the St. Claude Avenue corridor in the Lower Ninth Ward of New Orleans. This initiative aims to enhance retail access, attract essential grocery services, and support local businesses while preserving the area's unique cultural heritage. Spearheaded by Brenda M. Breaux and Bobby Boone during a presentation to the New Orleans City Council’s Community Development Committee, the study illuminating the current state of commercial conditions marks a pivotal step towards revitalizing the local economy.

Despite the dense population, the St. Claude corridor faces challenges such as low traffic counts, restrictive zoning, and fragmented commercial development. Alarmingly, over half of the existing 36,000 square feet of retail space is vacant. Addressing these issues is vital, especially as investment opportunities arise, particularly on the western end of the corridor.
